Jeff Bezos Is Not Selling His $500 Million Yacht “Koru,” Despite Rumors

Helen Hayward May 31, 2026

Reports recently suggested Jeff Bezos was planning to part ways with his super yacht, yet those claims don’t hold up. The Amazon founder has no plans to sell the vessel known as “Koru”, which he began using in 2023 after its delivery.

Built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco and originally referred to as Project 271, the yacht stands out for its size and presence on the water. Stretching about 417 feet, it is widely recognized as one of the largest sailing yachts in the world, according to Boat International.

Its structure includes three towering masts, multiple deck levels, an aft pool, and bow seating positioned on the bowsprit, creating a distinctive sailing profile.

Design Details and Symbolism

The name Koru comes from the Māori word meaning loop or coil, represented through a spiral shape. It reflects ideas of renewal and personal transition, aligning with a new phase in Bezos’ life.

The yacht carries a notable artistic detail at its forepeak: a wooden mermaid sculpture with gold accents, including a necklace shaped with the Koru symbol. Early speculation linked the sculpture to Lauren Sánchez, but she clarified the story in an interview, saying:

“I’m very flattered, but it’s not [me],” Sánchez told Vogue in December 2023.

She explained the figure represents Freyja, the Norse goddess associated with love, fertility, war, and gold.

Life On Board and Design Perspective

Koru has also played a role in personal milestones. The vessel hosted moments connected to Bezos and Lauren Sánchez-Bezos, including his 2023 proposal. It later became the setting for a pre-wedding gathering on June 22, where guests attended a foam-filled celebration on deck ahead of their 2025 wedding.

While the interior has never been publicly shown by the owners, builder Oceanco has described the design direction as:

“Timeless, contemporary style, with natural wood tones complemented by a palette of warm neutrals and beautifully patterned textiles.”

Design observers have also compared its look to classic maritime builds. Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars,” noted to The New York Times that the yacht recalls early 20th-century vessels, adding:

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts, it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV.”

Despite ongoing speculation, Koru remains part of Jeff Bezos’ collection. It continues to draw attention for its scale, symbolism, and craftsmanship. Its rare design language stands out clearly. The yacht also carries personal significance tied to key life moments. As a result, it holds a distinct place in modern luxury sailing history.
